CrossFit is a high-intensity fitness program incorporating various functional movements to enhance physical strength, speed, endurance, and overall fitness. Developed by Greg Glassman in 2000, CrossFit combines aerobic exercise, bodyweight movements, and weightlifting to challenge and improve multiple aspects of physical fitness.
The CrossFit Philosophy
CrossFit is built on the belief that the best way to improve fitness is through a well-rounded, comprehensive training regimen. The program focuses on these ten general physical skills: Cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy
By engaging in varied and intense workouts, CrossFit strives to achieve well-rounded fitness applicable to daily life or sports performance.
The CrossFit Methodology
CrossFit employs a constantly varied approach to training, so “Workouts of the Day”, or “WODs,” change daily.
WODs are designed to accomplish a mix of three key fitness domains, including Mono-structural metabolic conditioning (aerobic exercises like running, biking, or rowing), Gymnastics (bodyweight exercises like pull-ups, push-ups, or air squats) and Weightlifting (exercises like deadlifts, snatches, or clean and jerks)
A WOD may consist of different combinations of these domains, ensuring that no two workouts are identical. This constant variation helps participants avoid fitness plateaus and boredom.
